ESG Reporting and Office Plants: How to Include Greenery

ESG reporting is becoming mandatory for more and more companies. Office greenery and biophilic design contribute to the "S" pillar — and it is important to know how to report it correctly.

ESG and green office

Why ESG and office plants

A green office is not just an aesthetic decision. For companies preparing an ESG report, workplace quality is a direct input into the "S" (Social) pillar — specifically in areas of employee wellbeing, corporate culture and working conditions. Since 2025, the EU's CSRD directive has extended ESG reporting obligations to thousands of medium and large companies.

Where office greenery appears in the ESG report

ESRS S1 — Own Workforce

Standard ESRS S1 deals with employment conditions and worker wellbeing. Reported aspects include "healthy working conditions" and "physical and mental health of employees". A biophilic office with plants is a specific, documentable measure that fits directly into this framework.

ESRS E1 — Climate Change (secondary benefit)

Plants absorb CO₂ — although their direct impact on emissions is small, they can be included in the description of environmental initiatives as part of offsetting measures. Renting from a local supplier (Verdino — Prague) also reduces carbon footprint compared to imported plants.

BREEAM and LEED certification

If your office is pursuing BREEAM or LEED certification, the presence of living plants and green elements contributes to "Indoor Environment Quality" and "Innovation" categories. Verdino can provide documentation on species, areas and care for certification purposes.

How to document greenery in your ESG report

For relevant inclusion in an ESG report, you need to document:

Verdino as an ESG partner

Verdino provides customers with ESG documentation — an overview of species, quantities, areas and care for reporting purposes. On request, we issue a rental and plant care certificate suitable for ESG report appendices.

Wellbeing as part of ESG strategy

More and more Prague companies are incorporating Verdino's office solutions into their ESG strategy. It is not just about reporting — it is about genuinely improving the working environment, which shows in eNPS surveys and employee satisfaction scores.
